Last week, Nintendo held their latest Nintendo Direct. With it, Summer Game Fest has come to a temporary pause after Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, and other third-party developers all showcased what to expect from their futures. So far, each company has announced several exciting new titles and confirmed new details on previously confirmed releases. Here’s an overview of the ten biggest reveals from Summer Game Fest 2024.
Astro Bot – Releasing on September 6
During the recent PlayStation State of Play in May, Team Asobi revealed Astro Bot, the next entry in their fan-favorite 3D-platforming franchise. The game will feature six galaxies spanning over 80 levels as the titular protagonist searches for his crew. Astro will explore lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes, and otherworldly locales on unique planets. Over 15 new abilities will incorporate the DualSense controller, and more than 70 new enemy types will be present.
Additionally, the game will feature 150 cameos from PlayStation’s history. This will include characters from Uncharted, Bloodborne, The Last of Us, Horizon, PaRappa the Rapper, God of War, and more. Depending on the version you purchase, you can get access to costumes based on both PaRappa the Rapper and Bloodborne.

Civilization VII – Releasing in 2025
Firaxis Games revealed the next entry in their beloved franchise, Civilization, and it was certainly one of the biggest reveals of Summer Game Fest 2024. Civilization VII will release at some point in 2025. At the time of writing, little details about the game’s civilizations and new mechanics are known. However, what we do know is that Civilization VII will release on all consoles. Further, Firaxis has confirmed that they will confirm more details about the upcoming release in August.

Doom: The Dark Ages – Releasing in 2025
After four years of waiting, Bethesda and id Software made one of the biggest reveals during Summer Game Fest 2024 with the next entry in the historic Doom franchise. Doom: The Dark Ages will serve as a prequel to 2016’s Doom and 2020’s Doom Eternal. It will release on all consoles, including PlayStation 5 and PC, in 2025.
Doom: The Dark Ages takes place in an era where the titular Doom Slayer was the “super weapon of Gods and Kings.” As such, the combat will be very different compared to Doom and Doom Eternal. It will ask players to stand their ground against demons, utilizing a wide variety of different melee and ranged weapons, similar to the original Doom back in 1993. Players will also be able to use new mech and dragon mounts.

Perfect Dark – Release Date Unknown
Initially announced in 2020, Xbox recently revealed a new trailer for the next entry in the Perfect Dark series. While the release date is still unknown, the latest gameplay trailer showcases the first-person stealth action that players can expect when the game launches. Undoubtedly, the gameplay reveal of Perfect Dark was one of the biggest announcements of Summer Game Fest 2024.
Xbox Wire describes the upcoming game and its most recent trailer as follows: “In the near future, Earth is struck by a series of global disasters, bringing ecosystems around the world to the verge of collapse. In the all-new Perfect Dark game, you experience the journey of Joanna Dark, dataDyne’s elite agent, as she hunts down the world’s most wanted criminal, Daniel Carrington, to uncover the mysteries behind the technological breakthroughs that could threaten the lives of millions of people.” It is currently unknown whether the story will continue the narrative of the original series.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – Release Date Unknown
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the long-anticipated remake of arguably the most beloved entry in the Metal Gear Solid series. As of now, no release date has been revealed for the highly anticipated title. What we do know, though, is that Delta will use the voice-overs from the original game, with a few new lines delivered by the original voice actors. Further, the game will utilize Unreal Engine 5.
The use of Unreal Engine 5, according to an overview trailer, allows more detail on the faces of the Snake Eater‘s characters. The trailer states that “tears, bruises, and bullet holes will mar Snake’s skin in real time, telling the story of each player’s unique gameplay choices. The injuries on your body remain throughout your journey.” While Delta will keep Snake Eater‘s original story intact, it will enhance its visuals and gameplay.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake – Releasing on November 14
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake was originally announced in 2021 as part of the Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary stream. After much anticipation, the remake will finally release on November 14. Both a physical standard edition and a Collector’s Edition of the game will be available. Pre-orders are now live at the Square Enix Store. The Collector’s Edition includes the following items:

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics – Releasing in 2024
One of the most surprising announcements of Summer Game Fest 2024 was the announcement of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. After the viral #FreeMVC2 movement, Capcom will finally release the beloved fighting game for modern consoles. Alongside it, they will release X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, and The Punisher in the collection.
The collection will also feature new training modes, local and online multiplayer, rollback netcode, a spectator mode, a music jukebox, in-game Museum, new display filters, and more. At the time of writing, the game’s exact release date is currently unknown. However, Capcom will likely reveal more at EVO 2024.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom – Releasing on September 26
For the first time ever, Zelda will be the protagonist of her own game. Titled The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, the game follows Zelda trying to save Link and Hyrule from strange rifts that have appeared. Along the way, the Princess of Hyrule will ally herself with a mysterious fairy named Tri.
With their combined powers, players can create echoes: imitations of things found in the environment. Echoes can be created of boxes, beds, rocks, water blocks, and even enemies. The game’s art style matches that of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake. The upcoming release is bound to be an exciting new experience for Zelda fans and newcomers alike.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Releasing in 2025
Finally, during the June 18 Nintendo Direct, the company finally showcased a new look at Metroid Prime 4. Now titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the first gameplay trailer confirms that the game will bring the sub-series back in a faithful manner. Prime 4 is a first-person game, just like its predecessors. It also includes the scanning visor from Prime 1, 2, and 3.
Little details about the game’s story and new mechanics are known as of now. That said, the recent gameplay trailer confirms that Sylux, a character who has been teased in Metroid Prime Hunters, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Metroid Prime: Federation Force, will finally take center stage in Prime 4: Beyond. Nintendo will likely reveal more details in the coming months.
