Square Enix have released the new opening movie for Star Ocean: The Second Story R featuring a theme song by duo music unit Suiren. The opening movie also reveals staff behind the stunning animation.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R is a faithful remake of the original Star Ocean sequel with new additions. The title includes new quests, additional difficulty modes, and adjustments t to combat. Original composer Motoi Sakuraba returns once more to score the game’s soundtrack, and a new opening movie will greet fans who start up the game.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R Opening Movie and Theme Song
The new opening movie for Star Ocean: The Second Story R was animated and produced by Yostar Pictures. This animation studio is notable for its work with Hypergryph’s Arknights mobile game, and they’re currently working on the Arknights: Perish in Frost anime series. Albacrow assisted Yostar Pictures in production. Yukihiro Kajimoto is the original character designer for the opening with producer Takahisa Ishida and chief director Nakashima Masaoki at the helm. Moreover, Kondo Naoto is the color planner for the opening.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R’s theme song is “stella” by Suiren, a popular Japanese duo music unit. Sui is the vocalist, and Ren performs on keyboard. As the official Star Ocean X (Twitter) account notes, both members of Suiren wrote and composed the new theme song.

Fans in Japan may now pre-order the physical Star Ocean: The Second Story R Original Soundtrack. The physical set will be available for 4,180 yen ($28.55), including tax, on November 8. Square Enix e-store account holders may reduce the price by 10% with their reward points, bringing the price down to 3,800 yen.
The physical soundtrack contains four CDs filled with new arrangements and remixes. Fans can expect band versions of the battle music and orchestral versions of field songs. Additionally, the soundtrack will feature new music produced for the remake. The full track list has not been announced.
Lastly, Star Ocean: The Second Story R launches November 2 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. A demo will be available at Tokyo Game Show 2023.
