Square Enix announced the Star Ocean: The Second Story R Original Soundtrack will be launching physically in Japan starting November 8. This particular soundtrack release will be available exclusively through the Square Enix e-store.
Announced in the June 2023 Nintendo Direct, Star Ocean: The Second Story R is a faithful remake of the original Star Ocean sequel with new additions. Fans may experience new content, select revamped difficulty modes, and enjoy a faithful telling of Star Ocean: The Second Story’s story. Original composer Motoi Sakuraba returns once more to score the game’s soundtrack, which will be released physically.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R Original Soundtrack Physical Release
Currently, the Square Enix e-store listing for the physical Star Ocean: The Second Story R Original Soundtrack reveals a November 8 release date. Pre-orders are currently available in Japan for 4,180 yen ($28.55), including tax. Square Enix e-store account holders may reduce the price by 10% with their reward points, bringing the price down to 3,800 yen. A western release has not been announced, however.
The physical soundtrack contains four CDs filled with new arrangements and remixes. Fans can expect band versions of the battle music and orchestral versions of field songs. Moreover, the soundtrack will feature new music produced specially for the remake. The full track list has not been announced.
Square Enix previously confirmed that composer Motoi Sakuraba is rearranging the original soundtrack with new remixes. The Star Ocean: The Second Story R soundtrack includes new songs and rearranged music tracks. As a result, the soundtrack should feel familiar to fans who played Star Ocean: The Second Story or Star Ocean: Second Evolution while having new music to enjoy. Square Enix also shared two new images of Sakuraba and his team composing and performing music for the upcoming remake.
Lastly, Star Ocean: The Second Story R launches November 2 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
