During Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2023, Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu vowed to bring better support for Xbox platforms, which includes more games. This is the beginning of a new partnership with Microsoft, which includes the release of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox Series X|S.
Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2023 is the premier destination for news regarding the MMORPG. A new expansion called Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is currently in development alongside the major Version 7.0 update. The Xbox ecosystem will also welcome this new Final Fantasy XIV expansion next year.
Square Enix to Bring More Games to Xbox
Kiryu was on stage alongside Spencer and Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida. Yoshida and Spencer announced Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Xbox Series X|S with cross-play as a new initiative with Microsoft. The Xbox version will receive an open beta ahead of its spring 2024 launch. Kiryu goes on to say that more games from Square Enix will come to Xbox platforms whenever possible.
“Starting with today’s announcement of Final Fantasy XIV coming in Spring 2024 and whenever possible, we are planning to bring our games to Xbox for players to enjoy,” said Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu on stage at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2023.
“Enjoyed being onstage with Yoshi-P and Kiryu-san to announce Final Fantasy XIV coming to Xbox,” said head of Xbox Phil Spencer on Twitter. “We’re thrilled that the Xbox community will join the Warriors of Light and we look forward to partnering closely with Square Enix on future games.”
Xbox fans may look forward to a brand-new Final Fantasy XIV free trial featuring Stormblood, the game’s second award-winning expansion. An exact release date for the free trial was not announced, but its expected to release sometime during support for the 6.x patch series.
Lastly, Final Fantasy XIV and the latest expansion, Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, are available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail launches in summer 2024.
