Final Fantasy XVI is set to release in just under a week. After years of anticipation, the game will release on June 22, 2023, on PlayStation 5. However, people that still haven’t managed to grab a PS5 yet may be wondering when the next Final Fantasy game will release on other consoles. We already did a piece about how the game will likely not release on Xbox anytime soon. However, that just leaves one question: Will Final Fantasy XVI release on PC? Here’s everything you need to know about a potential PC release for the latest Final Fantasy game.
When Will Final Fantasy XVI Release on PC?
There’s a very strong likelihood that Final Fantasy XVI will eventually release on PC. The upcoming release is a timed exclusive on the PlayStation 5. Now, in a translation of a PlayStation Blog, Game Producer Naoki Yoshida revealed that the timed exclusivity doesn’t mean that the game will release on other consoles in six months on the dot.
After all, Final Fantasy VII Remake had a similar exclusivity deal on PlayStation consoles. That game was originally released on the PlayStation 4 in 2020. A year later, it was released on the PlayStation 5 and Epic Games Store. And a year after that, it was finally released on Steam. So based on prior PC releases for Final Fantasy games, specifically Final Fantasy VII Remake, a PC port will probably release in either 2024 or 2025.
Release Information
Final Fantasy XVI will release on the PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023. While an Xbox release is almost impossible because of poor JRPG sales on the system, a Steam/PC release for the upcoming release is almost guaranteed. It will probably take a few years before the game is officially ported to the PC, but with the success of the Steam port of Final Fantasy VII Remake, XVI will undoubtedly release on Steam eventually.
The game is a PlayStation 5 console exclusive until 12/31/2023. This means that no other platform can receive the title until that exclusivity period is up. We can probably expect to see confirmation of a new platform for Final Fantasy XVI sometime in 2024.
