In an interview with Famitsu, Final Fantasy XVI Director Hiroshi Takai said the following in regard to the game’s length: “Final Fantasy XVI is a story-driven game that will take you on a roller coaster trip. You’ll see the entirety of Clive’s way of life, and the game will probably take about 35 hours to clear. If we include side content, it can be double that amount.” (Thanks to @aitaikimochi for the translation!)

So, it will take 35 hours to be the story of Final Fantasy XVI. If you finish the side content, it will take 70-80 hours to complete all of that.

This is a good length for an RPG and pretty typical for the genre. There are a total of eleven hours of cutscenes in the game, which will make for an epic telling of Clive’s story. The world of Valisthea seems massive, which means it will be incredibly easy to spend dozens of hours within XVI

What Kind of Side Content Does Final Fantasy XVI Have?

There is plenty of side content to complete within Valisthea. As noted above, finishing all of it alongside the main story will take you around 70-80 hours at the bare minimum. There are multiple different types of side content available in the game, some of which were revealed at the XVI State of Play.

First, we have standard Side Quests. These are not part of the main story and could offer pretty much anything. You could simply be going to fetch an item or two for someone, or it could interlink into a wide-linked quest that has you traveling all across the world. These are the most common form of side content in the game, as they are available everywhere.

Next, there are Hunt Board quests. These allow you to pick a quest and go hunting that monster in the world of Valisthea. You can get lots of different rewards from completing these, as well as certain ranks for the monsters you bring back.

There will be more forms of side content found throughout the world of Valisthea, but you’ll have to find them for yourself! If it’s like any other Final Fantasy title, you’ll probably find yourself simply exploring the world for hours on end anyways.
