Toxic Commando – Everything We Know About John Carpenter’s Game

John Carpenter enters the world of video games.

John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando was not on anyone’s bingo board for Summer Game Fest. In a conference with such heavy hitters as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Mortal Kombat 1, Toxic Commando was a comparatively random reveal. On the surface, it looks like a typical first-person shooter with Co-Op elements. However, Toxic Commando will be developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment, and the game’s story will be penned by the legendary John Carpenter.

Carpenter is known for his work on horror franchises, such as The Thing and Halloween. While his involvement seems random, John Carpenter has mentioned several times that he’s a massive fan of video games. The director has even alluded to wanting to make a Dead Space movie for years. Therefore, Carpenter making a video game inspired by the 80s seems like a match made in heaven. So, here’s everything you need to know about John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando!

A New World From the Mind of John Carpenter

The official website describes the story as follows: “In the near future, an experimental attempt to harness the power of the Earth’s core ends in a terrifying disaster: the release of the Sludge God. This eldritch abomination begins terraforming the area, turning soil to scum and the living… to undead monsters!

However, the genius behind the experiment has a plan to make things right. All he needs is a team of competent, highly-trained mercenaries to get the job done. Unfortunately, those are all too expensive. Which is why he’s hired…The Toxic Commandos!”

In a statement from Saber Interactive released along with the game’s reveal, they talk about John Carpenter’s role in development. They state that they’re “thrilled to collaborate with the legendary John Carpenter on this project. His unique vision, unparalleled expertise in storytelling, and ability to create immersive atmospheres have helped us to elevate this all-new, 80s-inspired experience to the next level. His works have been an inspiration for years, and it’s an honor to work alongside him to deliver a truly unforgettable adventure.”
