After several cryptic tweets and comments, Square Enix shared gameplay for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth at Summer Game Fest 2023. The new trailer shares insight into the main story of the sequel following the events of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
The gameplay for Rebirth revealed a lot about the game’s story and narrative. Viewers saw more glimpses of the narrative and mystery of Cloud, Tifa, and Nibelheim. The trailer shares a first look at the character of Bugenhagen from the original Final Fantasy VII. Series antagonists such as the Turks, Jenova, and Sephiroth also make their return.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Trailer Reveals New Info
Square Enix’s new trailer and blog post reveal a first look at the expansive semi-open world of Rebirth, as well as the aforementioned new characters. Red XIII and Yuffie are confirmed to be fully playable. The gameplay also showcases updated mechanics, such as team attacks, as well as a more polished User Interface.
There are also returning locations such as the Chocobo Farms and the Mythril Mine, and Elena of the Turks makes a return. The trailer ends with more hints at the game’s story, such as Sephiroth and what he knows about Jenova, Tifa, and Cloud.

The gameplay reveal confirms that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released in early 2024 for PlayStation 5. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will include 2 discs, much like the original Final Fantasy VII. Pre-order information is currently unknown. In the meantime, the full trailer is embedded below.
