8 PlayStation Showcase 2023 Games Likely to Show Up

    Get 'em rolling.

With the next PlayStation Showcase set to air next week, it’s time for another round of predictions! There are so many different titles that could show up this time around, especially as there aren’t many titles dated or revealed for PlayStation 5 on the horizon.

Today, I’ll share eight of my best predictions for the PS Showcase, which will hopefully all come true! From JRPGs to brand-new remakes, I’m hoping for a packed show from Sony to solidify the PlayStation 5’s lineup over the next year. Here are our predictions for the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase.

    Final Fantasy XVI Demo

    Final Fantasy XVI gameplay footage

First off, why not a demo for the next mainline Final Fantasy title? Set to release next month, we already know that a demo will hit the PS5 before the game’s launch. This would be the perfect time to host a big blowout for one of Square Enix’s most anticipated titles in quite some time.

While Square has shown off quite a large amount of footage already, there would be no harm in a short trailer announcing a demo for the title. What’s even better is they could shadow-drop the demo next week after the Showcase airs.

    Spider-Man 2 Deep Dive

    Marvel's Spider-Man 2

It’s time to show off Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The game is set to release this Fall, however, we have not seen or heard anything about it since the initial reveal trailer back in 2021. I’m expecting to see a large chunk of gameplay here, with a focus also on the story of this title as we’re in the dark there too.

It is entirely possible Sony might elect to share a little bit of information here and then a blowout later on, however, I think this is the place to do it considering the game is rumored to release in September, which is roughly 3 months from now.

Pragmata (PlayStation Showcase May 2023 Predictions)

    PRAGMATA

Capcom, it’s time to show off Pragmata. I was blown away with the game’s initial trailer but we have not heard anything since its delay. The game is set to release this year, which makes the PlayStation Showcase the perfect time to reveal gameplay and a brand-new trailer.

It’s been a long time since 2020’s announcement trailer, but that doesn’t mean anyone has forgotten about the game. With Capcom’s current release slate, I can see Pragmata releasing either in Fall – Holiday season or early 2024.

    Stellar Blade

Stellar Blade is a title I think will have somewhat of a presence at next week’s show. Formerly known as Project EVE, the title is being developed by SHIFT UP Corporation, which is a Korean Studio. The game will be published by Sony, meaning that this will be the time for it to show up and receive a release date.

It’s currently dated for 2023, which I expect will be extremely late around October. Hopefully, we’ll get a new trailer that reveals more story and lore information in this PlayStation Showcase.

    Ghost of Tsushima 2

    Ghost of Tsushima

I was not expecting to love Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima as much as I did, but it blew me away with its majestic landscapes and fun combat. I’m extremely curious to see what their angle will be on a sequel and how it will work, but nevertheless, I am excited and want to see this game revealed.

With three years since Tsushima’s release, it’s definitely time to peel back to curtains on the sequel. PlayStation Showcase would be the perfect time to do this and set a release year of most likely 2024.

Death Stranding 2 (PlayStation Showcase Predictions)

Sam Porter Bridges stands with Fragile as she shows off her Drawbridge ship.

I’ve been extremely impatient waiting for even a few seconds more of Death Stranding 2 or “DS2ever since it was revealed at The Game Awards last year. The first title was such a special experience for me and I am ecstatic to see where Kojima and his team will go with the sequel.

If the game doesn’t show at the PlayStation Showcase, I expect we will see it later this year at most likely The Game Awards. It’s been in development for quite some time, however, so I predict that it will make an appearance here.

    Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake

Metal Gear Solid 3, Solid Snake

If there is one PlayStation Showcase prediction I am most uncertain of, it’s this one. The rumors of a Metal Gear Solid remake of some sort have been churning for what feels like ages, but everything is sounding like it’s actually going to happen with Snake Eater. VGC’s Andy Robinson has consistently been teasing this, even going as far as asking if fans were “geared up” for the PlayStation Showcase.

This is a title that would instantly go into one of my most anticipated games, so I really do hope it does show up at the PlayStation Showcase and shock the world. While I do have worries about stipulations regarding the remake, I’ll keep them to myself until we get to see it (if it really does exist).

    Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

    Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Last but not least, my currently most anticipated title, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The game is scheduled to launch this Winter, and with XVI almost released it is just about go-time for marketing Rebirth. PS Showcase is the perfect platform to reveal the first trailer for this unbelievably anticipated title.

I am confident the title will show here, as Square needs to kick-start the marketing cycle and reveal a release date. I can’t see them waiting until Tokyo Game Show, or opting to put it in Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest presentation. Hopefully, we’ll get to see what awaits Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Aerith, and Red XIII next week as the next chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series unfolds.
