Square Enix updated its official website for Final Fantasy XVI with new gameplay footage featuring Eikon Battles, Clive’s companion Torgal, Eikon abilities, and much more. The latest gameplay footage comes just a few weeks after the recent Final Fantasy XVI-focused State of Play, which delved deeper into mechanics. Further, the official website reveals new artwork for the Eikons.
In Final Fantasy XVI, players take on the role of Clive Rosfield, the Shield of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria. Clive’s younger brother is Joshua Rosfield, the inheritor of the Eikon of Fire known to many as Phoenix. As shown in previous gameplay videos, Final Fantasy XIV focuses on Clive in a story told from his teen years to his thirties. Throughout the course of the journey, Clive will make contact with several Eikons including the mysterious Dark Eikon of Fire, Ifrit.
Clive makes use of his sword prowess and Eikon abilities in Final Fantasy XVI, leading to devastating combos and attacks as shown in the new gameplay footage. After acquiring such abilities, Clive may switch between his Eikonic powers with synergistic attacks. The protagonist will be accompanied by his childhood friend and the Dominant of Shiva, Jill Warrick. Additionally, Clive gains a trusty companion in the form of Torgal, a faithful hound. Torgal may fight alongside Clive and hold his own ground.
Final Fantasy XVI players may place emphasis on the story by playing the game in Story Focus mode. This combat option assists players who aren’t adept in character driven action games. One of the new gameplay videos demonstrates Story Focus mode as an active option in Final Fantasy XVI.
