    Super Mario Bros Movie Generates $871 Million Globally, Nearing $1 Billion

    The Super Mario Bros Movie has generated $871 million globally since its premiere on April 5, 2023 in U.S. theaters. The latest blockbuster film by Nintendo and Illumination Pictures is expected to surpass $1 billion in box office sales. 

    According to Variety, The Super Mario Bros Movie will be the first film of 2023 to surpass $1 billion in international box office sales. The movie is expected to surpass the milestone with its Japanese theatrical release on April 28. Currently, Nintendo and Illumination Pictures’ new film is the highest-grossing film of 2023 and the highest-grossing film based on a video game property of all time. 

    The Super Mario Bros Movie has generated $434.33 million in North America, which is roughly half of all global box office sales. Roughly $437.5 million came from overseas markets including Europe and Australia. The highest-grossing territories for the film are Mexico ($65.6 million), U.K. and Ireland ($51.69 million), Germany ($37.15 million), France ($31.7 million) and Australia ($27.3 million) according to Variety. Moreover, it’s the highest-grossing film of the year thus far in 31 international markets. This film is expected to surpass $1 billion in box office sales within the next seven days.

    Lastly, The Super Mario Bros Movie premieres on April 28 across theaters in Japan. The film is now available in several markets around the world including North America, Europe, and Australia.
