The Legend of Dragoon Patch Out Now, Fixes Audio and Soft Locking

PlayStation has promptly rolled out a patch for the new release of its cult classic JRPG.

The PS4 and PS5 releases of The Legend of Dragoon brought with them plenty of nostalgia and hype, but unfortunately, new bugs and glitches. After playing for over an hour or using the PS Classic save state and rewind function, characters’ iconic special attack voice clips would get cut short or not play at all. All but a few of the magic spells available in battle as Dragoons would cause the game to soft lock. Luckily, just six days after its launch, PlayStation has addressed these issues with a patch for The Legend of Dragoon, available now. No more bug-induced hard mode forcing you to fight bosses with no magic!

    Version 1.000.002

While there are no official patch notes, fans immediately began playtesting the latest patch and reporting their findings. Audio issues and magic-induced soft locking are no more. I booted the game up myself as well and can confirm that after using various Dragoon spells, fighting in multiple battles, running between the World Map and towns, and using rewind and save states, I couldn’t get the game to freeze and all of my characters’ battle dialogue after Additions sounded flawless.

The Legend of Dragoon fans on Twitter have said that the patch also fixed the game’s visual glitches. I haven’t spent enough time with Version 1.000.002 (released about an hour ago) to be able to confirm this myself, but I walked through all environments in the city of Lohan and couldn’t find any instances of the bright green pixels that plagued some areas of TLOD, even when I had on the PS Classic “Retro” visual filter that worsened the issue pre-patch. It’s looking promising.

    How To Implement Fixes

After you’ve downloaded the update, you’ll want to make a new in-game save, rather than a save state. It doesn’t matter which of the two you load from. From my anecdotal experience, I started the game and loaded from a previous save state and the game had no music. I made my way to the nearest save point, saved the game, quit, loaded that save, and everything from that point on has been smooth sailing. That includes new save states you make; everything should work as intended after you’ve created and loaded from this new in-game save. All that’s left is to enjoy The Legend of Dragoon and work toward its platinum trophy.

The Legend of Dragoon is available now for $9.99 on the PlayStation Store for PS4 and PS5. Users who purchased the game on PS3 or PSP can download the new version for free. It’s also included in the Classics Catalog for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.
