Rumor: WB is working on a Super Smash Bros inspired fighting game with various IPs

*Update – 10/27* Jeff Grubb (link taken down) shared more tidbits about the new Multiversus game and some interesting situations have arose since then (Thanks, Nibellion). According to Grubb, the game looks “cheap” and could be a free-to-play title. DLC fighters for the game are planned including Lebron James, weirdly enough. Another leak arose as Smash player hungrybox leaked the initial roster of the game. Warner Bros Entertainment proceeded to take down the video of the roster immediately after it went live.

*Original Article* The latest rumor comes from GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb corroborating a report about the “Multiversus” trademark filing by WB. The trademark was made for a new Super Smash Bros inspired fighting game utilizing a suite of Warner Bros’ IPs. This includes Batman, Lord of the Rings, Mad Max and even classic cartoons such as Tom & Jerry and Scooby Doo. Apparently, the inspiration for this new fighting game is the Ultra Instinct Shaggy meme which arose after the popular Dragon Ball Super anime. This version of Shaggy would then go on to featured in the Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms animated movie by WB. However, it’s important to note that NetherRealm Studios is not working on this project. It’s best to take a grain of salt with this rumor until an announcement is made (Thanks, VGC).
