MAGES. is working on various original games and remasters, according to president and CEO Makoto Asada in a recent Game*Spark interview (via @KaroshiMyriad). One of these upcoming new games is being led by Chiyomaru Shikura, the executive producer at MAGES. and one of the most prominent figures behind the Science Adventure series.
Asada is currently working on a game that is not in the adventure genre, but of a genre that he hasn’t worked on in quite some time. He’s been developing the concept for several years now. However, it’s difficult for him to dedicate time to production, and he’s working with external partners to continue facilitating the game’s smooth development. He’s optimistic about a potential announcement this coming spring.
Asada touched on Mystereet: Yasogami Kaoru no Chousen!, stating that he wanted to complete the series based on a manuscript by the late writer Hiroyuki Kanno. However, Asada and MAGES. decided against doing so, since they were conflicted about working on a project and arbitrarily altering Kanno’s work. Instead, Asada wants to create a new work set in the world of Mystereet, but he must first look for a scenario writer he can entrust to write it.
Asada also confirmed that more remasters are in the works. Specific titles weren’t named among those remasters, but Asada did not that there are two or three more titles with “surprising titles” following the release of My Merry May with be. The MAGES. CEO is also interested in translating the Memories Off remake and other works in English that could be deemed a success overseas.
MAGES.’ latest release is STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT, which first launched on August 20 for PC via Steam. Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 versions of STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT will launch on October 29.
Final Weapon previously reviewed STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT and gave it a 4/5 score, noting that the game “could be perfect for those looking to learn more about Rintaro and his journey,” in the Science Adventure universe.
