Niantic has announced that an event in Pokémon GO celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is now live. It will feature Mega Raids and Timed Research at participating United States retailers.
The event, which will last until October 20, will feature Mega Gengar in Mega Raids. Completing the timed research tasks will reward players with Poké Balls, encounters with event-themed Pokémon, and more! In addition, those who redeem a Pokémon GO gift card from Target, GameStop, or Best Buy until October 21 get the in-game Gengar Knit Cap avatar item. Players who already own the Gengar Knit Cap will receive an alternate item of equal value. Pokémon GO is also featuring in-game adidas items which can be acquired at participating adidas stores.
Recently, Niantic announced that Pokémon GO Tour 2027 will take place from February 19 to 21 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and Los Angeles, California. It will “celebrate” the Alola region from Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Ultra Sun, and Pokémon Ultra Moon. Tickets will be available at a later date. In the meantime, Pokémon GO Wild Area 2026 will take place from November 6 to November 8 in Sendai, Japan, and Mexico City, Mexico. Those unable to attend the event in person can take part in Pokémon GO Wild Area: Global from November 14 to November 15.
Tickets for both the in-person experiences and global in-game event are now available. As part of the 10th anniversary celebrations, Niantic held an in-person event at Times Square in July 2026. In addition, a World Space Week celebration will take place from October 4-10.
