Sony has announced that it will skip the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2027 to focus more on entertainment instead. The announcement comes after the scrapping of their joint venture with Honda.
In a statement made to Bloomberg, Sony said that “We continuously and strategically evaluate our approach to events and communications based on the needs and priorities of our diverse business.” Instead, it will focus more on “entertainment, intellectual property and technology geared to support creators.” If Sony or PlayStation have any tech products to announce next year, it will be at some point after CES 2027.
Recently, PlayStation has officially announced that it is ending all physical disc production in January 2028, meaning that all future games released afterwards on PlayStation consoles will release exclusively in digital format. In addition, services for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita storefronts will end by 2027. In a statement, PlayStation elaborated on the choice, stating that “This is a natural direction for Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs. This transition will enable us to align more closely with how most of our community prefers to access and play games today.”
Its next major game, God of War Laufey, will get a physical release however. Pre-orders for the game will go live on September 30 ahead of its release on February 16. Those who pre-order either the physical or digital version will get the Last Wish Armor Set, Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance (cosmetic), and in-game resource pack. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes:
