Sony and Honda have announced that it has scrapped development of its AFEELA 1 vehicle, four years after the vehicle started development in 2022. Currently, the vehicle will now only be accessible via Gran Turismo 7.
In a statement, Sony Honda Mobility Inc. elaborated on the choice: “…As a result of Honda’s reassessment of its automobile electrification strategy announced on March 12, 2026, SHM will not be able to utilize certain technologies and assets that were originally planned to be provided by Honda at the time of SHM’s initial business planning.
In light of this change, SHM has determined that it does not have a viable path forward to bring the Models to market as originally planned. As a result of this decision, SHM will issue full refunds of the reservation fees received for current holders of reservations for AFEELA 1 in California in the U.S.”
The car would’ve sported an immersive theater with 360 degree audio, AI-based features such as intelligent drive, fast charging, and a “media bar” that would’ve allowed owners to customize their UI. Some of the themes that the media bar would’ve supported were based on PlayStation properties like Astro Bot and God of War, among others. The TVs in the backseat also would’ve featured built-in PlayStation Remote Play.
Gran Turismo 7, where you can still access the now-cancelled AFEELA 1, is available now on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Recently, update 1.68 released for the game, which added the Chevrolet Camaro 1969 Race-Mod (Gran Turismo original restomod Z28), Mazda ɛ̃fini RX-7 Type R (FD) ’91, and Renault Captur S Edition TCe 140 ’21 cars, alongside several World Circuits events.
