Aniplex Clarifies Fate/EXTRA Record’s Development Structure

Clarification on the status of development.

At Tokyo Game Show 2026, I had the chance to attend a closed-door session covering Fate/EXTRA Record. Following a live gameplay demonstration and presentation regarding specifics of the game, we had the opportunity to ask questions of Aniplex Co., Ltd. Staff.

The presentation opened with Aniplex clarifying a few things about the development structure of Fate/EXTRA Record. For one, it was said that Type-Moon Studio BB mainly acted as planning staff, with development being handled by another team from the beginning. Additionally, it was revealed that Meteorise, now credited with development, was actually involved before Aniplex joined the project with the restructuring.

Later in the Q&A session, Aniplex said there has not been a decision yet on whether to bring Fate/EXTRA CCC to modern platforms via a port, remaster, or remake. Unlike Fate/EXTRA, an English version of CCC was never released. It was also shared that development of a new Fate game is actively being considered, but that decision ultimately is up to Type-Moon.

Fate/EXTRA Record will launch on January 28, 2027, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Physical pre-orders for Fate/EXTRA Record will be available through the Marvelous USA Online Store and participating retailers for Nintendo Switch and PS5, starting at $59.99 for the Standard Edition. The Nintendo Switch 2 Standard Edition will cost $69.99, with the game fully on cartridge.
