A news release from The Walt Disney Company classifies Kingdom Hearts as one of Disney’s most valued franchises—a $1 billion franchise at retail. Kingdom Hearts is a major part of the Disney Games Group portfolio, which Sean Shoptaw, EVP of Global Games and Digital Entertainment, notes is all about “telling truly original stories.”

As a $1 billion grossing franchise, Kingdom Hearts leads the Disney & Pixar Games label as one of nine major franchises in the portfolio. Other examples include Marvel Strike Force and games from Lucasfilm Games, Marvel Games, and 20th Century Games. Shoptaw also discussed the portfolio in Disney’s “How Disney Is Building Its Future Through Games” video.

Disney & Pixar Games and Square Enix will host the DEEP DIVE into KINGDOM HEARTS panel from D23 will be livestreamed on the official Disney, Kingdom Hearts, and The Game Awards YouTube channels on August 15 at 4:30 p.m. PT / 7:30 p.m. ET. The DEEP DIVE into KINGDOM HEARTS panel celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts series and feature a “behind-the-scenes look” at the making of the games.

Kingdom Hearts IV is coming soon to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. What’s more, the series is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] on October 8. A demo for Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind and pre-orders for Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] are available now. KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX will be available natively on Nintendo Switch, too.

Square Enix previously canceled development of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link. Similarly to Kingdom Hearts Dark Road, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was supposed to tell a story that bridges the gap between plot threads long before Sora’s journey in the original game. Before its cancellation, the game was delayed back in November 2024.
