Metacritic has announced that it has picked Hades II as its 2025 Game of the Year, a game which has a Metascore of 95. In previous years, games such as Astro Bot, Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, Forza Horizon 5, and Persona 5 Royal have received the award.
On a message on the Metacritic official website, the company’s staff outline Hades II‘s critical acclaim and everything that separates it from its predecessor. Further, it revealed that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the runner-up to receive the award. Hades II initially launched on September 25 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Final Weapon reviewed Hades II and gave it a 4.5 out of 5 score, describing it as “a benchmark for the genre. The story, characters, writing, and art direction exceed the expectations set by the original Hades. Further, the new gameplay mechanics and the addition of a second area make for a game that can keep you occupied for dozens of hours without ever getting boring. While the ending is extremely disappointing, I can confidently recommend Hades II to everyone, regardless of whether you’ve played other entries in the genre or not.”
