PlayStation has announced that the previously announced system update for the PlayStation 5, which adds simultaneous DualSense pairing, will release tomorrow on Septemer 17. The new power saving feature is also available.

Rather than needing to continuously disconnect and reconnect the DualSense or DualSense Edge controller in order to use it on multiple devices, the new update will streamline the process. You can now register up to four devices at the same time. This will allow you to seamlessly switch between PC, Mac, mobile devices, or PlayStation 5.

According to the PlayStation Blog post, the process for switching devices is as follows:

  1. Turn on the device you want to connect to.
  2. Press and hold one of the action buttons and the PS button for about 3 seconds. When the light bar and player indicator blink, release both buttons. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.

To enable the new power saving mode, players must access “Settings > System > Power Saving > Use Power Saver.” Future updates for games such as Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yōtei will release which support this mode.

PlayStation describes the power saving feature as follows:

“With this update, you may notice a new option in your settings menu called Power Saver. When you turn on this option, supported PS5 games will scale back performance and will allow your PS5 to reduce its power consumption. If not enabled, or if games do not support the feature, the performance will not be scaled back and power consumption will not be reduced.” Additionally, while Power Saver mode is active, VR mode will be inaccessible. The mode will also limit certain game features.
