GKIDS has announced that the black-and-white version of Shin Godzilla will premiere in North American theaters on August 31. This version of the film is titled Shin Godzilla: Orthochromatic.
Shin Godzilla initially released in 2016. While Godzilla Minus One features a rageful version of the character with a far-more personal, human-filled story, Shin Godzilla is a borderline horror film. Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, known for Evangelion and the other Shin movies, direct the film. The black-and-white version of Shin Godzilla premiered in 2023, right before the release of Godzilla Minus One. Recently, Shin Godzilla 4K Remaster released in theaters on August 14. The re-release is exclusive to North America.

A sequel to both Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One are in the works. Tickets for the black-and-white version of Shin Godzilla are now live. The official website of the film describes Shin Godzilla as follows:
Something has surfaced in Tokyo Bay. As the Prime Minister of Japan pleads with the public to remain calm, a horrific creature of tremendous size makes landfall in the city, leaving death and destruction in its wake. Then it evolves. The government assembles a motley task force to combat the monster when an envoy from the US Department of State delivers a folder of classified documents. On its cover is written: “GODZILLA.”
From visionary directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, Shin Godzilla offers a thrilling origin story to one of cinema’s greatest creations. Propelled by astounding visual effects and rapid fire dialogue, Shin Godzilla is equal parts pulse-pounding action film and venomous political satire, worthy of the franchise’s towering history.
