Today, Square Enix shared a brand-new interview with Tomoya Asano focusing on The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. While the entire interview is well worth a read, a few interesting points arose from it that are worth highlighting. For one, Asano revealed that the main theme of the game is “time”, noting that this is the first time his team has taken this on in terms of story. You can view his full response about this theme below:
“In your own words, what is The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales?
Tomoya Asano (Concept and Planning): This is the first action RPG in the HD-2D series! It’s an action RPG with simple and easy to understand gameplay yet offers a deeply satisfying and challenging experience. The easy-to-use controls are also given an extra twist by having a controllable fairy as your companion.
The visuals are gorgeous, as you’d expect from the latest game in the HD-2D series, and we have put just as much effort into the story as all the games that have come before it. Actually, in terms of that story, this is the first time that we have taken on the theme of “time”…”
Additionally, it was confirmed by Asano that Elliot will serve as the game’s only protagonist. Asano shared, “A lot of care was taken in getting Elliot right, as this is the first time that we’ve made a game with just a single protagonist.” Previously, Team Asano has largely focused on games with multiple protagonists, such as Octopath Traveler and its eight protagonists. A Debut Demo for the game is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, so you can try out the game today and share feedback to shape the final release. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in 2026.
