Alongside a new trailer today, SEGA confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 physical copies of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will ship on a full cartridge, not a Game-Key Card. In a press release, the physical is said to “feature the full base game on a 64GB cartridge”. The digital Switch 2 version is set to launch in Holiday 2025, while the physical copy will release in Early 2026. Nintendo Switch users will have the ability to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game for $10.

This announcement marks the first physical release from SEGA that isn’t a Game-Key Card. The launch window of Nintendo Switch 2 saw the release of Yakuza 0 Director’s CutPuyo Puyo Tetris 2SSonic x Shadow Generations, and Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army. Each of these releases was on a Game-Key Card.

We had the chance to preview the game at Summer Game Fest 2025, where we wrote, “I walked into my appointment for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds expecting just another Sonic Racing game that had some good elements but didn’t quite meet the mark. I could not be happier to have been proven wrong. This feels like a game that will surprise a lot of people and carve out a space in the ginormous kart racing scene later this Fall. CrossWorlds has a lot of potential — it’s just going to be up to SEGA on how to engage players for the long run. If the company continues to release exciting and surprising guest characters alongside new tracks, I believe CrossWorlds will remain a celebration of SEGA that shines for years to come.”

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be available for pre-order on Nintendo Switch 2 at a later date. The game is set to launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 25.
