Maomao meets the Jade Palace’s three new maids and investigates a ghost story in The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 episode 34. With Shisui and an elderly courtesan at her side, Maomao will have an eventful and spooky night ahead of her, so here’s what you need to know about episode 34 of The Apothecary Diaries.
In The Apothecary Diaries episode 33, Maomao investigated the late emperor’s room in order to find what caused his death. Anshi called over his mute former attendant, and once Maomao started probing the room, she noticed that he was getting nervous about a particular wall. Maomao got the greenlight from Anshi to tear off the wallpaper and uncovered an elaborate painting of the empress and her ladies-in-waiting.
Upon further investigation, Maomao discovers that the paint uses orpiment, which is an arsenic sulfide that’s toxic to the body. It also stops and/or slows the decomposition process, solving the mystery behind the late emperor’s death. After hearing that the mystery has been solved, Anshi reflects on her life with the late emperor and chooses to love him despite his mistakes and cruelty. The reason for this is that the late emperor lives on through his grandson, Jinshi.
The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 Episode 34 Release Date and Time
The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 episode 34 premieres on Friday, March 14 at 9:15 a.m. PDT / 12:15 p.m. EDT on Crunchyroll. The new episode is titled “A Ghost Story” and it will stream with English subs first, followed by the English dub at a later date. 12 to 13 episodes will release in the first cour of Season 2.

What to Expect in Episode 34
Hakū, Kokū, and Sekiu make their arrival at the Jade Palace in episode 34, and since they’re twins, it’s very hard to tell them apart. Maomao meets them during work when she decided to head to the storeroom after her shift. Maomao also appears to get in a friendly scuffle with Yinghua.

Afterward, Maomao and Yinghua decide to go to the old wing of the palace. There, they are welcomed by a beautiful and eldery courtesan that seems to know more about the old wing. Many more courtesans and ladies appear to be interested as well, including Maomao’s friend Shisui. The group gathers to tell ghost stories, which appear to be the focus of the new episode.
