Official FragPunk X Account Shamefully Pokes Fun at Mountaintop Studios Closure With “So You Messed Up?” Meme

A NetEase account poking fun at a studio closure.

    Published:

Yesterday, developer Mountaintop Studios announced its closure, alongside the sunsetting of the studio’s first game Spectre Divide. An announcement from Nate Mitchell, CEO at Mountaintop Studios, outlined that the lack of concurrent players has left the team with no other choice. Spectre Divide launched for PC on September 3, with Season 1 and a console release last month.

This morning, the official X (Twitter) account of FragPunk, a game developed by Bad Guitar Studio, a subsidiary of NetEase’s Thunder Fire Studio, replied to the Spectre Divide announcement with an incredibly tone-deaf and flat-out shameful meme. The post had a common meme of Steve Rogers from the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a caption of “So You Messed Up? While I Can Do It All Day.”

The tweet was shortly deleted after posting, but not before numerous fans and developers at Mountaintop caught wind of the post. Marcus Schubert, now former Senior LiveOps Producer at Mountaintop shared the following post on his personal account:

Mountaintop Studios is no more, yet here we have an official social media account from NetEase, who has shuttered and laid off numerous developers and studios over the last year, poking fun at this studio’s closure. With the industry consistently undergoing layoffs with each passing week, this behavior is nothing short of disgusting. This is a time where the games industry must unite together – not laugh in the face of others who have been forced to shut down with dozens of people losing their jobs.
