Sword of the Demon Hunter Anime is Coming to HIDIVE

Kicking off HIDIVE's spring 2025 season.

HIDIVE announced the anime adaptation of Moto’o Nakanishi’s Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho novel series will be streaming on the platform. The anime will kick off the spring 2025 season on March 31.

“We’re thrilled to kick-off HIDIVE’s Spring 2025 simulcast season with the exciting new series Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho,” said HIDIVE president John Ledford in a press release. “Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho offers a gripping mix of fantasy, action, adventure and drama that will transport fans on a truly epic centuries-spanning journey!”

The Sword of the Demon Hunter anime will run for two consecutive cours. Originally, the anime was planned to premiere in June 2024, before being delayed due to production reasons.

The anime features an all-star cast, including Taku Yashiro as Jinta, Reina Ueda as Suzune, and Saori Hayami as Shirayuki. Additionally, the ending theme song, “Sen-ya Ichi-ya,” will be performed by Hilcrhyme feat. Izumi Nakasone.

Moreover, Kazuya Aiura is directing the anime at Yokohama Animation Lab. Deko Akao handles the series scripts, Taro Ikegami designs the characters, and Ryuuichi Takada, Keiichi Hirokawa, and Kuniyuki Takahashi compose the music.

Lastly, here’s an overview of the anime, via HIDIVE:

In the Edo period, there was a shrine maiden called “Itskihime” in the mountain village of Kadono. Jinta, a wandering orphan who, along with his younger sister Suzune, drifted into the village and grew up to become the shrine maiden’s guardian, ventures into the forest to defeat a mysterious demon who speaks to him of the far future and the threat of a Demon God. So begins this epic supernatural historical fantasy series that follows a demon hunter through his century-spanning journey from the Edo to Heisei periods—all-the-while questioning his wielding of a sword.
