Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that they will fully integrate SN Systems into their company. Sony initially acquired SN Systems, a developer of programming tools for game creators on PlayStation, as a subsidiary in 2005. On April 1, the company will be part of SIE as one unified company.
Hideaki Nishino, CEO, Platform Business Group, Sony Interactive Entertainment, said the following about the announcement: “The exceptionally talented team at SN Systems has been an integral part of Sony Interactive Entertainment by driving innovation in tools development, which has been central to our success across multiple PlayStation generations.
This next step in our partnership will strengthen our shared sense of unity. Together, we look forward to continuing to empower developers to create compelling gaming experiences for PlayStation players.”
Recently, Sony announced that Hideaki Nishino will be the president and sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, effective April 1, 2025. Previously, he was a joint-CEO alongside Herman Hulst. According to a PR statement, while Hulst will still continue to serve CEO of the Studio Business Group, he will now report directly to Nishino.
Further, Sony also announced Hiroki Totoki, President, COO and CFO of Sony Group Corporation will step down from Chairman to become President and CEO of Sony Group Corporation. Lin Tao, SVP, Finance, Corporate Development and Strategy for SIE, will also step down from her position at SIE to become CFO of Sony Group Corporation.
While Sony has not stated why they are making such a major restructure to SIE, other than saying that its designed to “maximize synergies,” it is likely this is due to recent failures from PlayStation. Notable examples include Concord and the recent cancellation of several GAAS titles.
