SEGA Files New Ecco the Dolphin Trademarks

Filed back in December and made public today.

SEGA filed two new trademarks for Ecco the Dolphin back on December 27, 2023 in Japan, which were made public on January 14, 2025.

The first of the two trademarks from SEGA is for the Ecco the Dolphin title. The second trademark is simply “Ecco,” the series protagonist. These trademarks are indicative of a game announcement, but it’s possible that Ecco the Dolphin could be part of the new SEGA revival project, which involves new games for once dormant IPs.

The next release from SEGA is Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, which releases on January 28 for PC via Steam. This new version of Virtua Fighter 5 features balance adjustments, rollback netcode for online matches, and numerous other improvements. The studio is also working on the next Virtua Fighter game.

Last month, SEGA filed new trademarks for Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s new action game Project Century. The first of the two Project Century trademarks is “Yashima Boueki Kaisha” (Japan Trade Company), which is the name of the company that appears on the protagonist’s jacket in the reveal trailer. The second trademark is for the logo of the company, which is also on the jacket.

Back in December 2023, SEGA filed numerous trademarks for Alex Kidd, After Burner, Crazy Taxi, House of the Dead, Outrun, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, and Super Monkey Ball. Currently, SEGA is developing remakes, remasters, and new entries for Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Jet Set Radio, and Golden Axe.
