AMD Reveals New Ryzen Z2 CPUs for Handheld Gaming PCs

Taking handheld gaming to the extreme.

At CES 2025, AMD announced its brand-new Ryzen Z2 series CPUs for upcoming handheld gaming PCs, alongside the new Radeon RX 9070 GPUs and new Ryzen 9 9000X3D desktop CPUs. These chips are designed to bring “console-class gaming” to a portable form factor, according to AMD.

AMD Ryzen Z2 Series processors feature up to 8 Zen 5 CPU cores with RDNA 3.5 architecture-powered graphics in the Z2 Extreme, which should bring a notable jump in performance over RDNA 2.0-based handhelds. AMD notes that the new Z2 chips offer ultra-responsive gaming and impressive graphics while maintaining low power consumption and optimizations. Handhelds and systems, such as mini PCs, powered by Ryzen Z2 processors are expected to be available starting in Q1 2025.
