In one of the most surprising reveals of the night, a sequel to Okami was announced at The Game Awards 2024. Another major surprise is that Hideki Kamiya is also returning to direct the game.
According to Capcom, the Okami sequel is being co-developed by multiple studios that were involved with the original game, including M-TWO, Machine Head Works, and Kamiya’s new studio, CLOVERS. Amaterasu and friends will return for a heartwarming adventure in a unique Japanese-style setting, and more details will be revealed at a later date. In the meantime, you can visit the game’s teaser website.
The trailer doesn’t show much, but it sets the tone and atmosphere of Okami. It starts with a dark and shadowy environment that becomes filled with vibrant colors, portrayed in a beautiful style reminiscent of watercolor paintings. Watch the brush strokes and colors come to life as we see Amaterasu return. While we only have this small trailer to go off, it’s hard not to get excited about it.

How long has it been since the story was concluded with that? I didn’t think the day would really come, where I’d return to Okami and continue the story with my own hands. Even at this very moment, my body is filled with both a cautious surprise that this is not a dream, and a joy that cannot be described in words.
Everyone who has worked so hard to make this project a reality, the friends who believed in me and gathered at CLOVERS Inc., and most importantly, the voices of so many of you who have continued to support Okami even after such a long time: all of this has come together to create this miracle, for which I am deeply grateful.
Like a strong rising sun, this project is finally in motion. But it’s still a small bud that is blossoming. We are ready to fill this new Okami with many colorful flowers, and to do our best to fulfil the promise of “next time” in the best way.
