SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have released the version 1.01 update for Yakuza Kiwami on Nintendo Switch. The new update improves the frame rate and performance of the Switch game.
Patch notes for Yakuza Kiwami update 1.01 were not revealed, but the developer’s official Twitter account notes that some performance improvements were applied. Upon further inspection, the update appears to improve the frame rate of Yakuza Kiwami toward the 30 FPS cap on Switch, making it a smoother experience. This improvement is noticeable in handheld mode, as running through crowded areas does not exhibit as many frame rate dips compared to the version 1.00 release.
Previously, RGG Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama discussed that Yakuza Kiwami is selling really well on Nintendo Switch. The director said he may have been “bit too conservative” about initial estimates for Yakuza Kiwami sales on Switch, as it’s selling much better than expected. He says it’s difficult to sell a remake like this again, so he’s very happy that many people are playing it on Switch.
Yakuza Kiwami is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via GOG and Steam worldwide. Final Weapon reviewed Yakuza Kiwami on Switch, noting that it’s a “solid port that faithfully brings the lights and sounds of Kamurocho onto a handheld. Despite some flaws in performance, Yakuza Kiwami on Switch retains its smooth and fun combat system, rich and compelling story, and all the content of existing console and PC versions.”
