Yakuza Kiwami – What’s New and Different in the Switch Version?

Kiryu's story finally begins on Switch.

The Like a Dragon franchise finally makes its debut on Nintendo Switch with Yakuza Kiwami, making it a very interesting release for Nintendo fans and returning Yakuza veterans. This begs the question: what’s new and different with the Nintendo Switch version of Yakuza Kiwami?

In terms of content, including main story and mini-games, Yakuza Kiwami on Nintendo Switch is exactly the same as its PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One counterparts. Players won’t have to worry about any missing or censored content, either. There are a few notable differences and additions in the Switch version, however.

Everything New and Different in Yakuza Kiwami on Switch

When starting up Yakuza Kiwami, you will already notice that the game has the licensed music tracks from the original Japanese release. This includes Receive You (Reborn), which wasn’t present in the 2017 localization of Yakuza Kiwami for PlayStation 4.

On Nintendo Switch, Yakuza Kiwami runs at 720p in handheld and docked modes at 30 frames per second. This is a notable drop from the 1080p 60 FPS experience on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but the game still looks impressive on Switch, especially character models and cutscenes. It’s worth noting that there are some frame drips and stuttering that occur in select areas, such as Theater Square and Tenkaichi Street.

In the Switch version, Yakuza Kiwami players may save anywhere from the pause menu, and a save menu is present in the settings menu. As a result, players can create or delete save data at any time. Moreover, the Switch version has auto saves, so you won’t need to visit a phone booth to get a quick save done. Phone booths are still present though, since you can store items in an item box.
