During a talk event at G-STAR 2024, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the plot of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 has been completed.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 has moved on to the concept phase according to an excerpt from 4Gamer’s report of the talk event, which was translated by Final Weapon staff writer Ryuji Shiryu. Since the plot of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is complete, the main development team have also started their work on the game.
Kitase and Hamaguchi discussed the importance of the game’s concept, but they did not reveal what this concept exactly entails. However, Hamaguchi did comment on one of Final Fantasy VII’s most important features, the Highwind airship. According to Hamaguchi, players will be able to freely move around with the Highwind airship in Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, and they’ll “not skimp” on the details. It will be a “challenge” that Hamaguchi and the development team attempt.
Platforms and a release date for Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 are currently unknown. We should expect more news before the second anniversary of Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis in 2025, according to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth co-director Motomu Toriyama. This means that Square Enix will share information about Part 3 before or within September 2025.
In the meantime, you can catch up on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and play an enhanced version of the game on PS5 Pro. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth update 1.050 added Versatility Mode, combining characteristics of Performance and Graphics Modes into one. This mode targets 60 frames per second and uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution to optimize rendering and display a resolution equivalent to Graphics Mode.
