Tencent Games subsidiary LightSpeed Studios has opened LightSpeed Japan Studio, a new development studio led by former Capcom director Hideaki Itsuno. The studio will be operating in both Tokyo and Osaka to develop original “AAA” action games.
LightSpeed Japan Studio will offer a flexible and inclusive working environment, according to the press release. It aims to integrate multi-platform and cross-device technologies to ensure creativity and technical excellence are pushed at the studio.
“It is our great honor to have Hideaki Itsuno join LightSpeed Studios,” said Jerry Chen, President of LightSpeed Studios. “The establishment of LightSpeed Japan Studio is a significant step in LightSpeed Studios’ expansion and demonstrates our commitment to bringing the best possible games to our players.”
“Joining LightSpeed Studios is an exciting new chapter for me. With LightSpeed’s strong development capability and global network, I look forward to creating original AAA action game titles together with the amazing team and building aesthetic and innovative experiences for the global player community. We welcome all talented and passionate game creators from the world over to join our vision,” said Hideaki Itsuno.
This past September, Itsuno announced that he left Capcom after thirty years and five months. Previously, he has worked on Devil May Cry series, Dragon’s Dogma and Dragon’s Dogma II, and more. At the time, he also stated that he began work on development on a new game, which is now confirmed to be at the new studio.
