During Netflix’s Drop 01 event, the company officially announced that a Devil May Cry anime is in development. Studio Mir and executive producer Adi Shankar will be working on the series. A release date is currently unknown.
Capcom released the first Devil May Cry game in 2001 for the PlayStation 2. The game started as a prototype version of Resident Evil 4 before evolving into its own franchise. Adi Shankar first teased the anime in 2018, around the same time Devil May Cry 5 was released. In a new trailer, Netflix teased more information about what to expect from the upcoming anime.
Devil May Cry Anime Revealed
The first trailer for the upcoming Devil May Cry series shows Dante up to his usual demon-hunting tricks. We see him use his trademark pistols, Ebony and Ivory, while dodging sword slashes from an unseen figure. The description states that the series will be “coming soon on Netflix.” Check out the trailer below:
Adi Shankar is known for his work as executive producer on the Castlevania anime series. A new spin-off of the series titled Castlevania: Nocturne will premiere tomorrow, September 28. Additionally, Studio Mir is known for several beloved anime series, including Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, and the recently released My Adventures with Superman. No one is better suited to bringing the Devil May Cry series to life than these two creative giants.
The entire Devil May Cry series is available on most modern consoles. This includes Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4, and the most recent entry, Devil May Cry 5. Five is available now on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Lastly, in the coming months, Netflix will likely reveal more information about the Devil May Cry anime’s premiere date.
