    ARIKA to Develop a New Tetris Game

    Releasing in fiscal year 2024.

    ARIKA (Tetris 99, Tetris: The Grand Master) and The Tetris Company have signed a new licensing agreement to develop an new Tetris game. According to ARIKA, the new game will be released the fiscal year 2024.

    New Tetris will implement new ideas based on the concept of ‘Tetris that makes good at Tetris‘ and is scheduled to be released during fiscal year 2024,” the press release reads. “Please stay tuned for further details.”

    The Tetris Company confirms that the new game will be the next entry in the Tetris: The Grand Master series.

    During the August 27 Nintendo Direct, Digital Eclipse announced Tetris Forever, a collection of classic Tetris games releasing in 2024. The collection includes the original Tetris on the Electronika 60 computer, the 1988 Famicom version of Tetris, Tetris 2 + Bombliss, Tetris Battle Gaiden, Hatris, Super Bombliss, Super Bombliss DX, Super Tetris 2 + Bombliss, and Super Tetris 3.

    Previously, the ARIKA and Nintendo held the Tetris 99 42nd Maximus Cup – Splatoon 3 Edition event from 12:00 a.m. PT on August 16 to 11:59 p.m. PT on August 19. At the time, Nintendo Switch Online members could play the Tetris 99 online mode and seek out some enticing rewards. Players earned event points based on their placement in each match. After obtaining 100 event points, players unlocked a new theme featuring art, music and Tetrimino designs inspired by the Splatoon 3 game and Expansion Pass paid DLC.

    Nintendo released Tetris 99 in 2019 as a complementary title with Nintendo Switch Online memberships. As the name suggests, the game is a 99-player battle royale with the gameplay of Tetris. Past Maximus Cups have featured art and music from Pikmin 4, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, WarioWare: Move It, Super Mario Bros Wonder and more. 

    Tetris 99 is available now for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
