In a recent interview, game director Nicolas Doucet confirmed that Astro Bot will receive free DLC in the coming months. At the time of writing, the only confirmed content in the DLC is a speedrun mode and new VIP bots based on several franchises throughout PlayStation’s history. PlayStation and Team ASOBI will likely confirm more details soon.
Currently, Astro Bot has a 95 top critic average on Opencritic. The statistic comes from 75 critic reviews and counting. On Metacritic, Astro Bot has universal acclaim as well, with 112 critic reviews and a 94 aggregate score, making it a Metacritic Must Play game. So far, there have not been any negative reviews for the game, and user reviews will open once it has launched.
Despite Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki’s recent comments on PlayStation original IPs, it’s clear that Astro Bot is an IP that should be fostered for years to come. The game has already become a trending topic on Twitter and other social media platforms as well, thanks to the game’s many easter eggs and cameos from other first-party and third-party games.
Astro Bot is available now on the PlayStation 5. Players have three editions to choose from. Pre-orders for the physical standard edition, digital standard edition, and digital deluxe edition are live. A new Astro Bot DualSense controller will also release on September 6 alongside the game.
Astro Bot features six galaxies spanning over 80 levels, as the titular protagonist searches for his crew. Astro will explore lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes, and otherworldly locales on unique planets. Over 15 new abilities will incorporate the DualSense controller, and more than 70 new enemy types will be present.
