Yuji Horii, best known as one of the creators of the Dragon Quest series, has taken to Twitter to share a message regarding Dragon Quest XII. Today is the 38th anniversary of the series, with a tease of the upcoming Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake also posted on Twitter. This tease did not specifically state Dragon Quest III, so it is possible that both Dragon Quest I & II are being remade as well. Horii did mention remakes were possible in 2021.
In his tweet, Yuji Horii states that he recently had a meeting about Dragon Quest XII, but the team is not ready to share any news just yet. Additionally, he states that the team is hard at work in making this title worthy of being the last work of both Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama. Akira Toriyama, known as the legendary creator of Dragon Ball, was the Main Character & Monster Designer of Dragon Quest. Sadly, the iconic artist passed away earlier this year. The main Composer of the Dragon Quest series, Koichi Sugiyama, passed away in 2021. Dragon Quest XII will likely be the two’s last contribution to this iconic series, though it is unclear if the two made contributions to the title yet. You can take a look at Yuji Horii’s tweet below:
皆さん、たくさんのおめでとうを本当に、ありがとうございます。心配をかけているドラクエ12ですが、実はさっきまで、その打ち合わせをしていました。まだ詳しくは言えませんが、亡くなったお二人の遺作に相応しいものをと思っています。頑張るぞお! https://t.co/QuVk0PCvNs
