More tidbits of information about Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate have been released by Square Enix and Yuji Horii! The upcoming JRPG is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, making it one of the first Japanese games to leverage the upgraded engine. This decision was most likely made after retooling Dragon Quest XI in Unreal Engine 4 to great success. A prototype for the new command battle system for DQ XII is already made and the developers are convinced of it being enjoyable to play. DQ XI director Takeshi Uchikawa returns for DQ XII. Uchikawa’s works also include DQ IX and DQ Monsters: Joker 2. Lastly, Horii states that the story for DQ XII is finished and the game will take some time to develop.
