Gravity Rush Movie and Patapon Teased in Sony CES 2024 Video

Sony may be using IPs from the defunct Japan Studio in the future.

A Gravity Rush movie and Patapon project are seemingly on the way, according to a new video released by Sony during CES 2024. These franchises have been considered dormant for quite some time, even more so following the closure of Japan Studio.

Sony’s CES 2024 presentation was largely focused on the company’s technological advancements, including research in automotive design and applications. However, the presentation did touch on gaming, revealing that over 123 million players were gaming on PlayStation platforms in December 2023. The presentation also shared insight into the company’s Torchlight initiative, which seemingly involves new Gravity Rush and Patapon projects.

Sony Didn’t Forget About Gravity Rush and Patapon

The new “Realizing Vision” CES 2024 video by Sony highlights the Torchlight initiative, which spans movies, animation, and gaming. Behind the scenes footage of the new Gravity Rush movie may be seen during the video. An actor may be seen in a motion capture suit to perform a scene in the new film. Further details about the film were not revealed, however. Later into the video, a snippet of development footage for Patapon may be seen. This could potentially be a new Patapon project, but it’s still unclear.

The Patapon developers that were let go by Sony formed the studio Ratata Arts, which is developing the Patapon successor title Ratatan. The Kickstarter campaign for Ratatan launched on July 31, 2023 and quickly met several stretch goals to become one of the largest projects in the platform’s history. Ratatan will be coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in the future.

The latest entry in the Patapon series, Patapon 2 Remastered, is available now for PlayStation 4. The remaster supports up to 4K on PlayStation 4 Pro or PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility.

Gravity Rush Remastered and Gravity Rush 2 are currently available now on PlayStation 4.
