Kojima Productions have announced that they will be developing a Death Stranding movie in collaboration with A24. Kojima Productions have revealed more information about what fans can expect on the company’s official website.
During The Game Awards 2023, Kojima Productions announced work on a new game in collaboration with Jordan Peele, titled OD. Last year, they also announced a sequel to Death Stranding, titled DS2. Expect more to be revealed about both games in the coming months and years.
Kojima Productions Working With A24 on a Death Stranding Film
In a recent blog post on the Kojima Productions website, they officially announced that they will be working with film company A24 on a Death Stranding movie adaptation. A24 is known for some of the biggest indie movies over the past few years. Examples include Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, The Lighthouse, Midsommar, and Talk to Me. They’ve developed numerous horror, action, and thriller films and have won several academy awards.
Hideo Kojima has had a habit of working with film directors and companies over his career. In 2014, he released P.T., a demo for the now-cancelled Silent Hills, which would’ve been developed with Guillermo Del Toro.
In 2019, he collaborated with Del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn. A Metal Gear Solid movie is still in ongoing development with Kong: Skull Island director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Lastly, Kojima will be working with beloved horror director Jordan Peele on upcoming game, OD.
In his official blog post, Hideo Kojima stated that the upcoming film will be more than “just a direct translation of the game.” He says that the intention “is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.”
Death Stranding is available now on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
