Disney’s Senior Gaming VP is ‘Super Excited’ About Kingdom Hearts IV

    An "incredibly successful partnership"

Kingdom Hearts IV is one of Square Enix’s most anticipated games in recent memory, and it appears that Disney senior vice president of gaming Sean Shoptaw is excited as well. When speaking with Axios in an interview, Shoptaw briefly discussed his excitement for the upcoming game.

Kingdom Hearts IV marks the beginning of the Lost Master arc, which is the “second phase” of the Kingdom Hearts series. Sora will explore the mysterious city of Quadratum, which is located in a separate universe regarded as “fiction” to the traditional Kingdom Hearts universe. The game is currently in development alongside Kingdom Hearts Missing Link, which players recently had an opportunity to play on iOS in select regions.

Shoptaw is “super excited” about the next game in the Kingdom Hearts series, Kingdom Hearts IV. He also notes that the Kingdom Hearts series is a very successful partnership between Square Enix and Disney.

“That’s been an incredibly successful partnership. There’s no other way to look at it,” Shoptaw told Axios. “We’re super excited about the next game.”

As previously discussed, Kingdom Hearts IV focuses on the disappearance of Sora from his original universe. Quadratum will serve as a base for Sora. Kingdom Hearts IV players may spend time there, go to other worlds, and come back to rest up. Since Quadratum is more realistic compared to Disney worlds, Sora’s daily life will be rather ordinary while spending time at base. For instance, players will see Sora go about his day-to-day routine in Quadratum.

Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was revealed alongside the highly-anticipated Kingdom Hearts IV during the 20th anniversary event in April 2022. The upcoming mobile game will detail the events between Kingdom Hearts Union X and Dark Road. Kingdom Hearts Missing Link launches in 2024 for Android and iOS worldwide. Lastly, Kingdom Hearts IV is currently in development for unannounced platforms.
