Netflix has officially announced Terminator: The Anime. The series will be developed by Skydance, Production I.G., and Netflix. At the time of writing, little information about the series’ story and characters are known.
The first Terminator movie initially released in 1984. Directed by James Cameron, the movie was beloved by many for its innovative story and effects. Several sequels of varying success were released afterwards, such as Terminator 2, Terminator 3, Terminator Salvation, Terminator Genisys, and more.

The series will be developed by Skydance and Production I.G. and written by Mattson Tomlin. Mattson has worked on several famous pop culture properties in the past such as 2022’s The Batman and its upcoming 2025 sequel, The Batman Part II. Production I.G. is known for several anime over the last few years including Attack on Titan, Haikyu!, Psycho Pass, and the upcoming Kaiju No.8.
Skydance is a production company known for several of the biggest films over the past twenty-five years. Examples include Top Gun: Maverick, the recent Mission Impossible movies, and of course, numerous Terminator movies.
At the time of writing, it is currently unknown if the Terminator anime will be based on a preexisting movie or story. However, the fact that it presumably takes place in 1997 already separates it from other entries in the series. Netflix will likely reveal more information on the series in the coming months.
The most recent entry in the Terminator franchise is the Terminator Resistance video game. It is available now on PC via Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Additionally, all prior Terminator movies are available for purchase at most local and online retailers. Lastly, Terminator: The Anime Series will be available exclusively on Netflix sometime in the next few years.
