Competitive Balance Adjustments
Super Slot added: Powering up the Gadget System
  • The Super Slot, the 7th Gadget slot, gives players even more ways to customize their racing strategy.
  • Alongside this addition, we’ve adjusted underpowered and overpowered Gadgets.
  • We’ve also introduced 1-slot variants of existing Gadgets that are compatible with the Super Slot.
  • To add more ways to drive, the update adds Mod Gadgets, which offer bigger stat bonuses than existing Tuner Gadgets, and the new Charge Gadgets.
  • Plus, we’ve adjusted the overall balance, shortening the time it takes Rings to spawn and buffing Acceleration Type Machines.
  • These changes will give racers in the middle of the pack chances to stage a comeback.
  • Going forward, more Gadget and Machine adjustments will be made based on usage and win rates.
Shorter Ring Respawn Times
  • Rings now take less time to respawn after players collect them.
  • In Ver. 1.4, it was difficult to collect Rings when racing alongside others. As a result, Gadgets that let players obtain Rings independently held a significant advantage.
  • We’ve implemented this change to shake up the meta, and give players in middle positions more chances for success.
  • Since these adjustments will make the Ring Engine Gadgets and Ring Evolution more powerful, we have rebalanced their performance accordingly.
    • These adjustments do not apply to offline modes, such as Grand Prix and Race Park.
Machine Type Adjustments
Acceleration Type Machines
  • Shortened recovery time after taking damage.
  • Based on usage and win rates of Acceleration Type Machines, we have made adjustments to improve their signature trait of recovering quickly.
  • They should excel on courses with many enemies and obstacles, as well as in races where attacks are frequent.
Power Type Machine fixes
  • Fixed an issue where Power Type Machines had a higher maximum speed bonus cap than other Machines.
  • Originally planned for Ver. 1.4.1, we postponed this fix to prevent an issue making it impossible to update your records in Time Trial. However, as the new Gadget Slot is likely to impact records in Ver. 2.0, we have proceeded with this change.
Driving Adjustments
Collisions in online matches
  • In online races, reduced the force pulling Machines back toward their original path after vehicles collide.
  • This should lessen the impact that other Machines impose on you.
Deceleration upon hitting obstacles
While Boosting from a Dash Panel or Dash Gate, Machines will no longer slow down when hitting obstacles that reduce speed without causing Ring loss, such as the bollards found in shortcuts.
This adjustment makes it easier to take Dash Gate shortcuts now that Frenzy can trigger during the 2nd lap of the Main Course.
Passing through Dash Rings
Reduced the amount of rebound when colliding with other Machines as you pass through a Dash Ring.
This should make it less likely for players to be pushed off the course in the Aqua Forest shortcuts and other such areas.
Item Adjustments
Homing Punch, Slicer
  • The user is now immune to their own attacks.
Rocket Punch
  • Lowered the maximum wall bounces to 2 for both forward and backward throws, reducing the amount of self-inflicted hits and unintended hits on other players. Previously, forward throws could ricochet up to 6 times, and backward throws up to 3 times.
Slicer
  • Now breaks immediately upon hitting an invincible racer.
Drill, Laser, Warp Ring
  • Increased movement speed to account for higher average Machine speeds caused by Gadget effects.
Omochao
  • Adjusted Omochao’s Ring placement so that Rings are easier to collect mid-jump.
Boost, Double Boost
  • While holding either Boost or Double Boost, the other item can now still spawn from an Item Box.
    • Previously, holding either a Boost or Double Boost made both items less likely to appear.
Bomb
  • Adjusted the explosion effect to better match the duration of its attack hitbox.
Course Adjustments
Frenzy events on 2nd lap main courses*
  • Frenzy can now occur when racing on a Main Course during the 2nd lap.
    • Occurs in all modes except Time Trial.
Additional course objects
  • Adjusted the placement of Rings and Item Boxes to improve the risk-reward balance of certain paths on the following courses:
  • Urban Canyon, Aqua Forest, Eggman Expo, Wily Castle, Lion Turtle Island
Added Double Item Boxes to spots where they previously didn’t spawn during the 3rd lap on the following courses:
  • Ocean View, Sand Road, Market Street, Mystic Jungle, Pumpkin Mansion, Northstar Islands, White Space, PAC-VILLAGE & MAZE, New York City
Dash Panels that originally only appeared during the 1st lap now also appear during the 3rd lap on the following courses:
  • Colorful Mall, Crystal Mine, Urban Canyon, Radical Highway, Eggman Expo, White Space
Enemy attack changes
  • Mutagen attacks now occur sooner on the New York City map during the 3rd lap, as they would not trigger soon enough for the racer in 1st place.
Time Trial course adjustments
  • Adjusted the Rings in the PAC-VILLAGE & MAZE course for Time Trial to have the same placement that they do in other modes.
CPU adjustments
  • Reduced the number of Tap Boosts that CPU-only groups perform, as they were performing too strongly under the Tap Boost rules.
  • Gave CPU racers wider Gadget loadout variety in World Match, Legend Competition, and Festival.
Gadget Adjustments
Since their introduction, Ring Engine and Hyper Ring Engine have maintained high win rates, particularly in Emerald Grade of Legend Competition
Since Ver. 2.0 makes it easier to maintain Rings due to the shortened Ring respawn times and the ability to equip an additional Gadget that grants Rings with the Super Slot, we’ve lowered the top speed bonus from these two Gadgets.
In parallel, we’ve adjusted Gadgets that make it easier to maintain your Rings:
Ring Engine
  • Lowered the stat boost from +12 to +8 when carrying 1 or more Rings.
  • Reduced the top speed bonus from +3 km/h to +2 km/h, and the bonus now scales with the number of Rings held.
  • When equipped in a Super Slot, the stat bonus is +12, with the top speed bonus scaling up to +3 km/h based on the number of Rings held.
Hyper Ring Engine
  • Lowered the top speed bonus from +4 km/h to +3 km/h, and the bonus now scales with the number of Rings held.
  • When paired with Ring Engine, removed the effect granting an additional +2 km/h to top speed.
Ring Evolution
  • Raised Ring Evolution’s Ring requirement from 10 to 15.
  • When equipped in the Super Slot, the requirement goes back to 10 Rings
Perfect Charge Bounty
  • Lowered the Rings awarded by performing a Perfect Charge from 3/6/9 to 2/4/6.
Slipstream Bounty, Acceleration Character Kit, Slipstream Kit
  • Now grants Rings every 0.6 seconds instead of 0.5.
  • When equipped in the Super Slot, this interval stays at 0.5 seconds.
Crash Pads
  • Weakened Crash Pads effect against Ring loss, protecting only 30% of Rings instead of 50%. When equipped in the Super Slot, the effect remains 50%.
The following Ring Gadgets have been enhanced. Since these Gadgets don’t continuously collect Rings, these enhancements should have only a small impact on Ring Engine builds:
Travel Ring Bounty
  • Increased the number of Rings you can receive from 15 to 25.
Morph Action Bounty
  • Increased the number of Rings you can receive from 4 to 6.
Ring Thief
  • Increased the number of Rings stolen from the other Machine from 5 to 8.
  • Ring Thief was useful for gaining a lot of rings early in the race, but became less useful from mid-race onward, so we’ve enhanced it.
  • Held off on adjusting Mini Ring Thief due to its use in Ring Engine builds.
Handling Character Kit
  • Increased the number of Rings stolen from the other Machine from 7 to 10.
Ring Gain Boost/Acceleration Character Kit
  • Increased top speed boost while collecting Rings from +15 km/h to +17 km/h.
  • This adjustment has been made to offset the weaker Slipstream Bounty and the Power Machine issue fix.
  • Held off on adjusting Ring Gain Mini Boost due to its use in Ring Engine builds.
The following Driving Gadgets were useful on certain courses and in certain situations, but in many cases ended up being underpowered
We have enhanced their performance in Ver. 2.0 to make their unique abilities more distinct:
Air Trick Adept/Air Trick Action Kit
  • Increased the Air Trick rotation speed acceleration multiplier from 1.25x to 1.375x.
  • This makes the boost exactly half that of Air Trick Expert.
Perfect Landing
  • After a Perfect Landing, the duration of the maximum speed boost now increases proportionate to the number of Air Tricks performed.
Air Drift Mobility UP/Ace Pilot Kit
  • Added an effect that makes all Levels charge 1.7x faster while in flight form.
Charge Jump Mobility UP/Sea Dog Kit
  • Added an effect that makes all Levels charge 1.7x faster while in water form.
  • Collision Boost/Power Machine Kit/Power Character Kit
  • Increased boost duration from 0.5 to 1.7 seconds.
Damage Mercy
  • Extended invincibility duration after taking damage from 8 to 10 seconds.
All-Rounder Kit
  • The speed penalty reduction effect in deceleration areas is now 3x stronger.
Second Wind/Damage Support Kit
  • Will now receive a Double Boost when you fall off the course.
Acceleration Machine Kit
  • Shortened stun duration after taking damage.
Enhanced the Gadgets below to make them more useful in the current game environment:
Friction Drift
  • Charging speed multiplier increased from 1.5x to 1.7x.
  • Perfect Charge Boost/Perfect Charge Kit
  • Maximum speed boost duration after a successful Perfect Charge Boost extended from 0.5 to 1.0 seconds.
Lv1 Quick Charge
  • Charging speed multiplier increased from 1.4x to 1.7x
    • The previous value was lower than intended, so it has been fixed.
Tuner Gadgets (All 10 Types)
  • Increased stat bonus when Machine Type does not match from +8 to +15.
Summon Item Box
  • Reduced the number of Rings needed to summon from 40 to 30.
Speed Item Chance UP
  • Now needs 2 slots instead of 3.
Go Go Omochao
  • Increased Omochao Ring dispensing time from 8 to 10 seconds.
Comeback Kit
  • Increased Ring Limit from 110 to 130.
Character Kits (All 5 Types)
  • Adjusted stats when Character Type matches.
  • Until now, a matching Character Type would give a +7 boost to one stat and a -5 penalty to another. Going forward, there will be a +3 boost and no penalty.
Spin Dash Kit
  • Fixed an issue where the time required to charge differed depending on the timing of the button presses.
  • Fixed an issue where getting crushed sometimes caused the Spin Dash visual effect to stretch vertically.
Technical Drift
  • While there are no changes to performance, the following graphical adjustments have been made.
  • Fixed an issue where the lighting effects of tires such as those on the Trail Runner would flicker.
  • Boosted the stats for the following Gadgets to better harness their unique strengths.
Due to course visibility issues with the addition of large Boost Type Machines in Ver. 2.0, lighting effects for Boost Type Machines have been cut down from the entire Machine to just the outer edges.
The 4th level Ultimate Charge lighting effect is no longer used elsewhere to make it distinct from other effects.
Bumper Guard
  • +10 Power added to current effects.
Maximum Traction/All-Rounder Kit
  • +10 Handling added to current effects.
Hazard Item Chance UP
  • +10 Speed added to current effects.
Giant Rocket Punch
  • +10 Handling added to current effects.
Giant Spiked Iron Ball
  • +10 Speed added to current effects.
Short Fuse
  • +10 Handling added to current effects.
Boost Starter/Speedy Shortcut Kit
  • +10 Boost added to current effects.
Time Trial Gadget Adjustments
  • Since balance adjustments can weaken Gadgets and make them less viable for setting new records in Time Trial, we may make separate Gadget adjustments for Time Trial alone starting in Ver. 2.0.
  • For Ver. 2.0, the following Gadgets perform differently in Time Trial.
Ring Engine
  • In Time Trial, reduced the top speed bonus for acquiring a Ring has been reduced from 3 km/h to 2 km/h.
  • When equipped in the Super Slot, the bonus remains unchanged at 3 km/h.
Hyper Ring Engine
  • In Time Trial, this Gadget will have the same performance as in Ver. 1.4.
  • However, you will no longer get an additional stat boost by equipping both the Ring Engine and Hyper Ring Engine.
  • You can get the same boost by equipping Quick Starter or Starting Boost Bounty as your 7th Gadget.
Ring Evolution
  • In Time Trial, this Gadget will have the same performance as in Ver. 1.4, and will evolve every 10 Rings.
Perfect Charge Bounty
  • In Time Trial, this Gadget will have the same performance as in Ver. 1.4.
