SEGA Sammy published its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year ending in March 2024, revealing that the Sonic the Hedgehog series sold 1.49 million units between July 1, 2023 and September 30, 2023.
In the previous fiscal year, Sonic Frontiers is one of SEGA’s top performing titles with over 3.5 million copies sold. The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise’s sales momentum continued in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, which moved roughly 1.22 million units. Sales have grown considerably in the second quarter.
Sonic the Hedgehog Series Unit Sales for Q2 FY2024
Approximately 1.49 million units for the Sonic the Hedgehog series were sold from July 1 to September 30, 2023. The second quarter’s sales bring the current total for the fiscal year to 2.71 million copies sold. “The Final Horizon” update for Sonic Frontiers saw its release within this quarter, likely contributing toward the increase in sales from the first quarter.
Sonic Superstars was the latest release in the franchise, but it did not release within the second quarter. SEGA did not comment on the status of the game’s sales just yet. However, SEGA notes that Sonic Origins Plus is performing strongly worldwide. Licensing revenue of the Sonic the Hedgehog IP also continues to contribute toward the franchise’s success. Once more, SEGA notes that it will release the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film by Paramount Pictures.
The next Sonic the Hedgehog release during the current fiscal year is Sonic Dream Team, which is exclusive to Apple Arcade. Sonic is joined by Tails, Knuckles, Rouge, Amy, and Cream in a new original storyline. These characters are playable in solo and multiplayer modes, such as 6-player online co-op. SEGA notes that the new game will offer a “cross-platform experience” across Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV platforms that support Apple Arcade.
Lastly, Sonic Dream Team launches on December 5, 2023 for Apple Arcade.
