Suda51 Discusses Most Successful Games by Grasshopper Manufacture

A slow but steady source of income.

In a new interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Goichi “Suda51” Suda briefly discussed Grasshopper Manufacture’s most successful games to date. Specifically, Suda revealed which games still make money for Grasshopper Manufacture to this day.

Grasshopper Manufacture was originally founded in 1998, and the company celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2023. The studio is responsible for several cult classics including Killer7, The Silver Case, No More Heroes, and much more. GungHo Online Entertainment owned Grasshopper Manufacture from 2013 until 2021. NetEase Games is the current parent company of Grasshopper Manufacture.

    Grasshopper Manufacture’s Most Successful Games

Although Grasshopper Manufacture have released several games in the past two decades, two series have performed the best. The series in question are The Silver Case and No More Heroes. These titles continue to make the most money past the one million copies mark, which Suda51 says only gives the studio a small percentage of profits. However, The Sliver Case and No More Heroes continued to sell, giving Grasshopper Manufacture a healthy amount of income.

“Even if we develop a game that sells a million copies – which we’ve achieved in the past – we only receive [a tiny] percentage of the profits from that,” Suda51 told Gamesindustry.biz. “The two series in which we currently make the most money are No More Heroes and The Silver Case. These titles continue to sell to some degree, so they’ve provided a slow but steady stream of income over the years.”

Grasshopper Manufacture is currently developing Shadows of the Damned Remaster for “all current platforms probably.” A few gameplay snippets were shown during the Grasshopper Manufacture Direct 2023 this past June. A release date has not been announced, however. The studio also teased multiple new titles, but further details were not revealed.

Lastly, No More Heroes III, the latest entry in the long-running series, is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
