Genshin Impact Composer Yu-Peng Chen Leaves HoYoverse

In pursuit of his music dream.

In a new Weibo post, Genshin Impact and HOYO-MiX composer Yu-Peng Chen announced that he has left HoYoverse (miHoYo). Yu-Peng Chen was integral to building the massive library of tunes that fans come to know and love from Genshin Impact.

The most recent update for Genshin Impact is Version 4.0, which introduced the highly anticipated Fontaine region on August 15. Genshin Impact Version 4.0 also includes several limited-time events, playable Fontaine characters, and new gear. The update also marks the first update without composer Yu-Peng Chen at the helm of the game’s score.

Yu-Peng Chen Moves On From Genshin Impact and HoYoverse

The latest Weibo post from Yu-Peng Chen reveals that he’s left HoYoverse to pursue his music dream and other endeavors. Chen also confirmed that he did not compose the soundtrack for Genshin Impact Version 4.0 and the Fontaine region. The HOYO-MiX team produced the score without his direct guidance, and he’s amazed by their work. He believes the team will continue to grow and present even more compelling tracks in the future. Lastly, Chen is looking forward to supporting Genshin Impact as a fellow player.

Here’s a translated excerpt from Genshin Update:

“Sorry to disturb everyone! According to the arrangement of some of my personal creative plans, after a period of careful consideration, and several communications with the company, I chose to leave miHoYo and the HOYO-MiX team to continue pursuing my music dream!”

Yu-Peng Chen was the leading music producer from Genshin Impact ever since its launch in 2020. He was the game’s sole composer up until the release of the second Inazuma original soundtrack in 2022. At the time, multiple composers were brought on board to co-produce the soundtrack. Chen did not reveal his plans involving another developer/publisher at this time.

Finally, Genshin Impact is available now for Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Windows and Epic Games Store. HoYoverse is currently developing a Nintendo Switch version of Genshin Impact.
