Square Enix announced network servers for Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer on Nintendo 3DS are shutting down on June 30. The server shutdown comes three months after service in the Nintendo 3DS’ Nintendo eShop comes to a close. Bravely Second: End Layer recently celebrated its 8th anniversary with a new illustration as well.
Nintendo eShop service on Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U and additional network functionality ceased on March 27, 2023. As a result, SP Drinks are no longer available for purchase in the Nintendo eShop for Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer. Additionally, network functions such as update data and registering friends were discontinued.
On May 10, Square Enix shared another update regarding Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer, confirming the shutdown of network servers for both titles on June 30 at 12:00 p.m. JST. According to Bravely series general producer Tomoya Asano, Net Friend Invites and sending Nemeses will no longer be available in both games. However, both titles are playable to the very end, and StreetPass functionally remains available. Asano thanks fans for their continued support of the Bravely series as online support for these Nintendo 3DS titles end.
On Twitter, the official Bravely Default account shared the status update in English. Additionally, the Twitter account thanks fans for 10 years of continued support of the Bravely series. Square Enix apologizes to fans for the delay of information when compared to its domestic rollout in Japan.
Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer are available now for Nintendo 3DS physically. Lastly, Bravely Default II, the latest Bravely title in the series, is available now for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
