Limited Run Games in collaboration with SUNSOFT, City Connection, and Clear River Games have announced a physical release of Gimmick Special Edition for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Pre-orders will open soon in the Limited Run Games Store.
Fans will be able to pre-order physical editions of Gimmick Special Edition from the Limited Run Games Store starting May 16 at 9 a.m. PDT / 12 p.m. EDT. A physical standard edition will be sold for $34.99 featuring a reversible cover. A Collector’s Edition will be sold for $74.99 featuring the physical standard edition with a reversible cover, Yumetaro plush, two CD soundtrack in a retro cart case, enamel pin, retro cart keychain. Pre-orders will close on June 18 at 8:59 p.m. PDT / 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Gimmick! was exclusively released on Famicom / NES in Japan and Scandinavia in the early ‘90s. It pushed the console to its limits and the Japanese cartridge featured SunSoft 5B, a custom sound chip that let Masashi Kageyama compose a star-studded soundtrack. Gimmick! remains one of the most valuable (and rarest) NES cartridges ever made. The Scandinavian version was called “Mr. Gimmick”.
